ABPL serves as the coordinating and management entity (CME) for the Gold Standard Africa Biogas Carbon Project (ABC) Program of Activities (PoA). This role involves overseeing and facilitating all aspects related to the development, certification, promotion, and external partnerships concerning carbon credits in Africa. Our efforts to transition households to cleaner cooking and lighting energy sources are actively reducing carbon emissions. As a registered CME, we have a unique opportunity to continue aggregating carbon credits generated by the installed bioenergy units. Currently, 7,691 units are contributing to the revenue from carbon credits under the ABC-PoA, with untapped potential for further expansion that could accelerate the installation of new bio digester units. ABPL’s future strategy is to broaden our impact beyond biogas by incorporating other bioenergy solutions that can generate additional credits while addressing energy needs in communities.
Projected Outputs
Aggregating Certified Bioenergy Carbon Credits
With 7,691 out of the 23,000 bio digester units currently generating certified credits, there is still ample opportunity to expand our certification program. Furthermore, given the presence of dynamic bioenergy hubs nationwide, we anticipate a growth in new bioenergy adopters. Our aim is to achieve an additional 22,510 biodigester units generating carbon credits by the year 2030.
